An ED visa is called an Educational visa "ED" for short. This visa is for any foreign national aged 12 or over who intends to stay in Thailand for the purpose of attending an educational course. Within Thailand, learning Muay Thai is considered an educational course which we at Gumpun provide.
The “digital nomad visa,” the DTV is cost-effective and convenient for those who are a freelancer, digital nomad, or remote worker seeking to work from Thailand. You can qualify for this visa if you plan to participate in so-called “Thai Soft Power” activities. You are eligible for the DTV if you plan to attend Muaythai or cooking classes, participate in sports training, undergo medical treatments, take short-term educational courses, take part in seminars, or join artistic or musical festivals.
Therefore if you are thinking of coming to Thailand to stay for a long period of time and learn Muay Thai while you're at it, these visas are definitely for you!
How is it different from a normal Visa?
A normal visa within Thailand will allow a maximum stay period of 60 days. However, with an ED visa you will be able to stay within Thailand for the length of your course!
This means if you were to apply to Gumpun for a full time Muay course programme length of 3 months, you will be able to stay here for 3 months.
For DTV, the DTV is multiple entry with visa duration of 5-years. Length of stay per entry is 180 days. It is extendable once per year. The minimum age for primary visa holder is 20 years old.
How does it work?
Gumpun Muay Thai is a muaythai camp certified by the Sports Authority of Thailand that enables us to help foreign apply for a Non-Immigrant visa Type ED and DTV for muaythai training. We will prepare an invitation letter for the Sports Authority of Thailand to process further to Thai consular affairs. You need to attach a copy of biodata page of passport valid for at least 6 months, fill out the application form, and pay for muaythai training course/accomodation. We recommend you to apply for both health care insurance programs and accident insurance programs that cover non-sport related injuries and illnesses injuries and illnesses that occur while playing sports, on their own.
